Clipper City Gold Ale
“Mildly bitter and mildly fizzy, this straightforward bright-gold
ale stays even-tempered and predictable throughout. The light-bodied liquid sweetens somewhat after a while, but
the easygoing bitterness is always present. A passing touch of malt shows up at mid-bottle, then quietly
goes on its way. A faintly citrus

ひとこと：
「クリッパー・シティ」というのは、ボルチモアのインナー・ハーバーを拠点に周航している大型帆船のことらしい。醸造している会社は、以前紹介した「マクヘンリー」と同じである。「マクヘンリー」に比べると、「ゴールド・エール」も「ペール・エール」も若干ではあるがアルコール度が高い。どうも、港湾都市のエールというのは船乗りが飲むからか、或いは照りつける太陽の下で潮の香を味わいながら飲むからか、或いは海産物の微妙な味付けを損なわないようにするためなのか、とにかくとてもゆるくてあまり酔えない。丁度、カリフォルニアの「アンカー」と「シエラ・ネバダ」を比較してみれば一目瞭然だ。
さて、その大型帆船に話を戻そう。ボクたちがボルチモアに行くとしたら、大半がオリオールズの試合観戦で、インナー・ハーバーには一度しか行ったことがない。そんな帆船あったかなぁという感じで、記憶も定かでないのだが、ウェブサイトを見ると2時間で大人12ドルとなかなかリーズナブルな料金設定だ。そのうち行ってみようかと思う。当然、アメリカ国歌の起源となったマクヘンリー要塞も船から見学できるのだろう。
