Pete’s Pub Lager
“Pete’s constrained crispness covers the roof of the mouth, while a rounded
sweetness gently coats the rest of the palate. Somewhat fizzy at first, it gains a creamy, soft mouthfeel
after several sips. Moving right
along, the fresh, mild hop character offers an amiable balance to the more
pronounced malt character at the forefront. It finishes nicely blended and soft on the palate. This is a medium-bodied brew with a

Pete’s Wicked Helles Lagar
“Pete’s full-tasting, lightly malted background is balanced by a
disciplined clean hop presence.
Its orangey-gold body is dry on the palate with a hint of
bitterness. The quickly rising
bubbles dispense plenty of carbonation before they’re absorbed by the fluffy
white head. The hop character
becomes more noticeable at the end of the bottle. A Gold medal winner at the 2001 Great American Beer

Pete’s Wicked Winter Brew
“Pete’s sturdy, raspberry and nutmeg components jostle for position
at the back of the throat in this noticeably carbonated winter wonder. As the muted, sweet raspberry taste
recedes only slightly delivered nutmeg slips snugly into place, leaving a touch
of bitter spiciness on the tongue. Scenic hyperactive bubbles can be viewed dancing through the
clear, red-hued amber liquid.

ひとこと：
王冠コレクター山田パパは、２年前、王冠ハンティングの最初のターゲットとして、スーパー「ジャイアント」を選んだ。そして、手始めとして、王冠のデザインがなかなか凝っているアメリカンビールということで、先ず手始めに「ピーツ」の「パブ・ラガー」を選んだ。ピーツ醸造会社を設立したピート・スロスバーグ氏とおぼしき髭面のおじさんが、ジョッキを掲げて微笑みかけているイラストの王冠とラベルである。まあ、ラガーということは比較的とっつきやすいだろうと考えたわけだが、「パブ・ラガー」は「ペール・エール」と間違えるほどに苦味が効いていた。「ジャイアント」では、「ピーツ」といえば「パブ・ラガー」だったのだが、季節限定の「サマー・エール」や「オクトーバーフェスト」、「ウィンター・ブルー」も扱っていることがわかった。「ヘレス・ラガー」に関しては、２００１年の全米ビール祭で金賞を受賞した頃から「フレッシュ・フィールズ」で扱い始めた。「ヘレス・ラガー」だけは「トータル・ワイン」でも手に入る。同じラガーと言いながら、「パブ・ラガー」に比べて苦味を抑えており、飲みやすいビールだと思う。お呼ばれの時の差し入れとして持って行くのに向いているビールだと思う。ビールの話題になった場合は、２００１年の金賞受賞をネタにするとよい。
