Goose Island Honkers Ale

Goose Island Summertime

ひとこと：

最近、ぼくは「トレーダー・ジョーズ」徹底攻略作戦を展開している。このビール紹介コーナーでは未だ紹介していないけれど、「ハリス・ティーター」と「ジャイアント」「セーフウェイ」のビールは殆ど征服してしまった。「トータル・ワイン」も、少なくとも王冠にデザインを施しているビールはたいてい制覇した。無地の王冠に移行する前に、残るは「トレーダー・ジョーズ」だと思っている。ばら売りはあまりやってくれないけれど、「トレーダー・ジョーズ」は、なかなかのビールをほどほどの価格で販売している。

そこで「グース・アイランド」、このコーナーで初めて紹介するイリノイビールである。アメリカでビール生産が盛んなのは、ウィスコンシン州ミルウォーキーを中心とする五大湖周辺と、ペンシルベニア、コロラド、カリフォルニアなどであるが、少なくともワシントン界隈から見ていると、「グース・アイランド」は五大湖周辺の地ビールの中では最もよく耳にする部類に入る。イリノイビールというのは、この辺りではあまり手に入らないのだ。この1銘柄だけを取ってコロラドやカリフォルニアのビールと比較するのはちょっと難しいけれど、「ホンカーズ・エール」に関して言うと、この味は英国のエールによく似ているように思う。但し、英国のエールのように重厚感やねっとり感があるようなエールでは決してない。むしろ飲みごこちは非常にさらさらしている。こういうビールを美味しいと感じること自体、ぼくもまだまだビール道の修行が足らないのではないかと思うのだが、それでもなかなか美味しいと思う。王冠に描かれた「ガチョウ」がなかなかカワイイ。是非コレクションしたいビールである。
