DeGroen’s Pils

ひとこと：

上記の批評は、はっきり言って辛口である。このピルゼン、確かにあまり美味しくない。炭酸が強過ぎる感じがして、舌の上でざらつくような気がする。こんなビールが本当に96年の全米ビール祭で金賞を受賞したのかとにわかに信じ難いが、ウェブサイトで調べてみたら、要はピルゼンの部で金賞だったわけですね。まあ、ピルゼンの割に飲み応えがあるので、ややエールに近いような気がする。それでいて上記の5点評価ではなんと1.1という低得点なのだ。

醸造場所がボルチモアであることから、ご当地ビールの1つだと言っても差し支えない。ラベルのデザインは多分にメリーランド州の州旗を意識していて、言ってみれば同州を代表するブランドだとも言える。ボルチモアには、ボルチモア醸造会社の生産する「ディグローン」の他に、「レイベン」というエドガー・アラン・ポーの顔写真を王冠にプリントしたややグロ系の入ったブランドがあるが、実は外見と違って「レイベン」の方が美味しい。その他にも「ブリムストーン」や「クリッパー・シティ」といったボルチモアの地ビールブランドがあるが、「ディグローン」と「レイベン」以外は王冠のデザインをけちって真鍮色の無味乾燥な王冠を戴くため、今まであまり飲んだことがない。この傾向はメリーランド州全体にも言えて、意外と地ビールが多い土地であるにも関わらず、「ブルー・リッジ」「ワイルド・グース」といったビールはいずれも王冠が面白くない。この点はお隣りのペンシルベニア州を見習うべきだと思う。

DeGroen’s Doppelbock
